Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Thermostat .... wish the support was as good I installed 2 of these... setup instructions was not too bad once I found the information about switching G wire to C....I was able to get the WIFI working in a snap.... but about 2hrs later the WIFI via the web did not work... so much for my desire to have access.Well... I could not get thru to Honeywell support... email or phone.I give it a 3 star because of the lack of good support... I hope the WIFI remote connection comes back

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Thermstat We've got 4 of these units, 2 at home and 2 at vacation home. They're easy to install and program, temp is accurate and layout clean. We use them to control our homes while there and away. It really help conserve energy. While we are driving to one of the places we change them temp about an hour out on our cell phone apps. Our children have install the same units in their homes and like them.My only complaint is I can't get my to auto function between heat and cool. I'll call tech support to see if its an option I'm missing in setup.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could use a few improvements... 1) The iPhone app should not require the "submit" after changing a setting.2) Why can't I tell if my system is running on the App?3) HW should add some basic historical energy use statistics or graphics such asrun time per day4) The 4 digit programming added to 2 digit sub coding is clunky. Why not enhance the interface or set up screens to accommodate this process?5) My wifi came defaulted to "no" out of the box? Why? It's a Wifi enabled thermostat. Why would you default this option to no right out of the box? Very odd.

It works exactly as described... it does need 3 wires and if you have only 2 you will need to run one more. once done it works well and is accurate. easy to program and easy to use.

Install Your Thermostat

Q: I am having difficulty removing my old thermostat.
A: Often times, the thermostat will snap off of the wallplate with moderate pressure. Other times, there might be small screws holding the device in place. If you are unable to pull it off, please refer to your thermostat manufacturer's website or manual for removal instructions. NOTE: Do not place your old thermostat in the trash if it contains mercury in a sealed tube. Contact the Thermostat Recycling Corporation at http://www.thermostat-recycle.org/ or 1-800-238-8192 for information on how and where to properly and safely dispose of your old thermostat.
Q: I have additional wires in my wall that were not connected to my old thermostat. Do I need them to install my new thermostat?
A: An extra unused wire in the wall can be used as the C wire for your new thermostat. The extra wire will also need to be connected to the C (common) terminal at the heating and cooling system. This will provide power to your new thermostat. Please refer to the video section for more information.
Q: My metal jumper wire fell out of my new thermostat, which terminals does the jumper need to be connected to on the thermostat wallplate?
A: The jumper wire can easily be replaced connecting it to the "R" and "RC" terminals on your thermostat wallplate. If you are unable to find the factory installed jumper, a short piece of wire can be used in its place. Please refer to step 1.7 in the Quick Start Guide.
Q: What tools or materials are necessary for the installation of my new thermostat?
A: In most cases, the only tools and materials required are a small flat edge screwdriver, #2 phillips screwdriver, your thermostat ID card (located in the box), and your home Wi-Fi Network password.
Q: How do I know if my old thermostat contains mercury?
A: The thermostat will have a glass tube with a silver liquid inside of the tube. Mercury is typically found in older mechanical thermostats like the Honeywell Round T87 and rectangular T8090. NOTE: Do not place your old thermostat in the trash if it contains mercury in a sealed tube. Contact the Thermostat Recycling Corporation at http://www.thermostat-recycle.org/ or 1-800-238-8192 for information on how and where to properly and safely dispose of your old thermostat.
Q: Do the color of the wires correspond to the letters on my new thermostat?
A: There is no code governing wire colors and thermostat connections. The thermostat should be wired by the letters found next to the wire screw terminal block. If you do not know the letter labels, then you can trace the wires back to the air handler/furnace or heat pump/ac unit.  That will allow you to determine the function of each wire at the system and then allow you to attach it to the matching terminal on the thermostat.
Q: What size screwdriver do I need to install my Honeywell thermostat?
A: A small flat edge pocket screwdriver and a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver are recommended.
Q: What is a C wire?
A: The C wire originates from the heating / cooling system and is necessary to complete a 24 volt power circuit which is required to power some thermostats. "C" stands for common and there is no universal color used to designate this type of wire.
Q: I do not have a C wire on my old thermostat.
A: If you do not have a wire connected to a C terminal or one that is labeled C on your old thermostat, there might be an extra wire that is pushed into the wall or wrapped around the wire bundle coming from the wall. Gently pull on the wire bundle to check whether there are any additional wires. If you do not have any additional wires, please refer to the Install Videos for alternative wiring.
Q: Do I need a C wire to install my new thermostat?
A: Yes - the C wire is necessary because it provides power to your new thermostat.
Q: Why do I have to verify that the heating and cooling system door is firmly secured?
A: Most heating and cooling systems have a built in safety switch, which stops power to the heating and cooling system if the door is not secured.
Q: I am not sure whether my new thermostat is wired correctly.
A: Honeywell offers several resources to assist in the wiring of your new thermostat. These resources include: Installation videos, a User Guide and a Quick Start Guide. If you are still unsure if your new thermostat is wired correctly, please contact Honeywell Customer Care at 1-855-733-5465.
Q: My heating and cooling system has a terminal labeled "COM". What is a COM terminal and what do I do with it?
A: A COM terminal is often used as another name for the C terminal and issued to provide power to your thermostat. COM can also refer to a communication circuit and will not provide power to the thermostat. If you have both a C and COM terminal on your heating and cooling system the thermostat should be wired to the C terminal. Please refer to the Quick Start Guide for more information.
Q: What is a cycle rate?
A: A Cycle rate is the maximum number of times a system will run, in an hour, when using 50% of its capacity to maintain a given temperature. For a high efficiency (90%+) gas or oil forced air systems would have a recommended cycle rate of 3. This means the heating system will cycle a maximum of 3 times in an hour.  If it is really cold outside the heating system will be on longer and cycle less, if it is mild outside the heating system will run less (be off longer) and again cycle less. Again, the actual on and off time of the heating system will vary as the load on the heating system varies.
Q: How do I find the password to my router?
A: Check the back or bottom of the router or the operating manual for the password. If you are still unable to find the password contact the router manufacturer.

Connect to Your Wi-Fi Network

Q: I cannot connect to my guest network. What do I need to do?
A: Some wireless routers have advanced features like guest networks. It is recommended that you connect your thermostat to your home network. If you must connect to your guest network, then you will need to contact the router manufacture to assist in unblocking port 443 in the guest network firewall.
Q: Are the MAC ID and MAC CRC case sensitive?
A: No, the MAC ID and MAC CRC are not case sensitive. Upper and lower case characters will work.
Q: Why am I not seeing my Wi-Fi setup page?
A: You are probably connected only to your router, not to your thermostat. Try connecting to the thermostat again.

The Wi-Fi thermostat works with the new iOS 6, operating system, however iOS 6 does not work for the initial thermostat installation. Please use a Wi-Fi connected computer, Android tablet or smart phone for the initial installation.
Q: I cannot see my New Thermostat on the list of available networks?
A: On the Thermostat Wi-Fi setup page, click on the rescan button to refresh the network list. This can be done multiple times. If this does not work then power down the thermostat by removing the thermostat from the wall plate and then snapping the thermostat back onto the wallplate in after 4-5 seconds. With your device (laptop or smartphone) reconnect to the "New Thermostat" network and open the Thermostat Wi-Fi Setup page again.

If the wireless network is setup to be a non-broadcasting SSID, the user can enter in the network name at the bottom of the page. Enter the network name in the "Add new network" text box, specify the encryption type and click ADD. The new network will appear at the top of the list. Select it, enter a password (if necessary) and select ‘Join’.
Q: How do I enroll/connect to the thermostat via the Internet?
A: Refer to Step 3 ("Register online for remote access") in the Quick Start Guide.
Q: Why isn’t my thermostat connecting to my Wi-Fi router even though it is very close to the thermostat?
A: Verify that the password entered for the Wi-Fi router is correct.
Q: Is there a way to extend the signal strength?
A: Most standard routers can be set up to be a repeater. You can also purchase and install a Wi-Fi repeater.
Q: What is the range or distance of the Wi-Fi signal in my thermostat?
A: The thermostat works in typical residential and light commercial applications.  The range or distance of the Wi-Fi signal is determined by your router.
Q: My thermostat will not connect to my home Wi-Fi network when I supply the correct password. The thermostat shows "Invalid Password" or "Connection Fail."
A: Honeywell’s Wi-Fi Thermostats are compatible with the following Wi-Fi security standards:
  • OPEN
  • WEP PSK
  • WPA TKIP PSK
  • WPA2 AES PSK
  • WPA2 MIXED PSK
  • WPA AES PSK
  • WPA2 TKIP PSK

Please change your router settings to use one of the supported security settings above. If unsure how to do this, please contact the router manufacturer.
Q: While connecting to Wi-Fi, my model RTH6580WF or TH6320WF thermostat is stuck on the screen that shows "Connection Successful" and "Wait."
A: Please try the following steps to get past the this screen:
  1. Power down the thermostat for 3-5 minutes by removing it from the wall plate or turning power off at the circuit breaker. Then turn the thermostat back on and verify that the "set time" screen is shown. If the "set time" screen is not shown repeat this process for longer period of time.
  2. After repowering, press the "fan" and the "up" arrow at the same time for five seconds. Press "Next" until ISU "39" is displayed, set it to option "0" with the arrow buttons, and press "Done." This will cause the Wi-Fi radio to reset.
  3. Please restart the Wi-Fi enrollment steps from the beginning.

Register Online for Remote Access

Q: What is My Total Connect Comfort?
A: My Total Connect Comfort is a web portal for remote access to Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostats.
Q: I registered for an account on My Total Connect Comfort but the confirmation email never arrived.
A: It may take several minutes for your confirmation email to arrive from My Total Connect Comfort. Check your junk or spam mailbox for the activation email. The activation email will come from mytotalconnectcomfort@alarmnet.com. If you still cannot find the activation email you may need to use an alternate email account to register your thermostat. If you register with an alternate email and are still unable to find the activation email, please call Honeywell's Customer Care at 1-855-733-5465.
Q: What are the MAC ID and MAC CRC for?
A: The MAC ID and MAC CRC are the unique identifiers used for registering your new Wi-Fi thermostat.
Q: Which password do I use on My Total Connect Comfort during the registration process?
A: Please use the password that you created for your My Total Connect Comfort account. If you do not remember the password you created please click on the Forgot Password link on the user sign-in page.
Q: I want to use other devices to access My Total Connect Comfort and control my thermostat remotely (tablet, laptop, or smart phone). Do I need to register each device separately?
A: No - once you complete the registration process, you can access My Total Connect Comfort and control your thermostat from anywhere by visiting myTotalConnectcomfort.com from any device or by downloading the iTunes or Google Play App on your tablet or smart phone.
Q: How do I create an account for my new My Total Connect Comfort System?
A:
  1. Start by clicking the Create an Account icon.
  2. Read and Accept the End User License Agreement.
  3. Enter the required contact information on the Create an Account screen and click Next.
  4. An activation email will be sent to you with a link to complete the activation process.
Q: Where is the MAC ID and MAC CRC located?
A: The MAC ID and MAC CRC is the alphanumeric code displayed on the thermostat display during the registration process. It is also located on the thermostat registration card and on the back of the thermostat . Each thermostat has a unique MAC ID and MAC CRC so that it is unique to your application.
Q: My thermostat is unable to register to the Total Connect Comfort website.
A: Verify that the thermostat is correctly enrolled on your home Wi-Fi network. The thermostat will display "CONNECTION SUCCESSFUL" or "REGISTER AT TOTAL CONNECT." You might also see the Wi-Fi Signal strength icon. Verify that the Wi-Fi router has a good internet connection. On your computer, verify that you can open the site at mytotalconnectcomfort.com. If you cannot open the site, switch off the internet modem for a few seconds, then power it back on.
Q: What internet browsers are supported by My Total Connect Comfort?
A: The internet browsers supported by Total Connect Comfort are Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 4, Safari 5, and Chrome 9.
Q: Can I have more than one location registered under my account?
A: Yes, your my Total Connect Comfort account allows you to have multiple locations registered under one account.
Q: I registered on the Total Connect Comfort website but was unable to login using my new account.
A: Check your email and ensure that you received an activation email. Follow the instructions to activate your account and then login to the website.
